telfon tel aviv
with their third album just about to drop on bpitch control we take a look at the duo from new orleans - telefon tel aviv
by Kid Dub

For weeks now I’ve been carrying the new Telefon Tel Aviv album around. Waking up in the mornings with it, having its soundtrack accompany me on planes, trains and automobiles of all sorts through my iPod and throwing it on to ease my way through those most precious moments of come downs. It’s so hard to put their third studio album, ‘Immolate Yourself’ into a few words but if I had to start somewhere then perhaps ‘immaculate’ would be best place.
Telefon Tel Aviv are Joshua Eustis & Charlie Cooper. Both very tuned into both their classical music as well as the current electronic counterparts. With one having studied classical composition and the other an avid sound designer, the invention as well as the intervention of Telefon Tel Aviv was timed very nicely. With labels such as warp, domino and planet-mu spearheading the way through this experimental fusion of acid tipped and electronic based genres, TTV’s debut on Hefty Records was
embraced by many in the industry.
Hailing from New Orleans, TTV actually made their first recording together in the February of 2000 when they remixed a track from Nine Inch Nails at Trent Reznor’s NOTHING STUDIOS. This was for the time to come, the only song to be recorded outside of Etuis’ Parents house.
I’ve been hooked on TTV since i first heard of them back in 2001. Back then i was a student at SAE and living with a few film and game students. The first thing from TTA i ever heard was Fahrenheit fair enough. I remember being very stoned and being totally absorbed into the multitude of layered blips and hoards of mini troll like screeches that propelled themselves across what was the most beautiful of chord arrangements, warmly recorded guitar parts and ambient textures.
Over the years I have followed them through their movie scoring on New Port South, which although not the greatest movie to be written from Breakfast Club’s John Hughs, TTV did provide a score which was very indifferent to most classically produced scores for considered teen genre’s. Their second studio album 'Map of what is effortless' brought a more soulful vocal element, accompanied with stunning string arrangements. Their last release up till now; Remixes Compiled demonstrated TTV’s ability to write consistently and unformulated. Remixing a plethora of credited artists from Nine Inch Nails and Bebel Gilberto to Oliver Nelson to Apparat.
With the success of their studio albums and making music on the road, TTV were made Ableton Artists and featured in a short video production from Ableton on how they make music while on the movie.
TTV have been busy these last few months recording their third studio album. The new studio Album Immolate Yourself is to be release at the end of this month on Elen Allien’s BPitch Control. The album is once again an evolution from previous compositions, this time bringing the classical components further to the front of their compositional cascade.

We have chosen to feature Telefon Tel Aviv because of their indifferent approach to electronic music and their continuing ability to grow, reshape, inspire and their contributing evolution of electronic music.
