we are word and rhythm

word and rhythm is the worlds first and only online magazine written by music producers and djs. This unique concept give readers the chance to gain opinions directly from the music makers.

to launch this magazine word and rhythm founder kid dub gives us a forward about the ethos and concept behind this new collborative project.

Over the last few years, I have to say dance music has come a very long way. And to me its becoming very interesting and inspiring, especially from the point of view as a producer. I’m growing more and more and learning everyday and I have found that its always an exciting time with this very young musical movement. The speed of its daily evolution, enhanced by an ever perfecting and digital technology made easily available. The bedroom producer of today is an educated producer, often with other techy driven interests and far more equipped then his ancestors of yesteryear. The result is a more calculated production with an unrelenting high standard. Along with this advancement the internet has provided the voice for the producer to allow the creativity to be shared right across the globe.

I have become an avid reader of some blogs over the last 2 years. I have to say blogs have become an important and almost essential resource of musical journalism. Being a Dj and having to hunt for music for a living I have realised that blogs provide a great outlet for discovering some rarities. One can search in every pot and jar but it sometimes takes a guest to spot the one you’ve missed. The only problem for me is that most blogs are either too particular or far too sparse to make regular reading enjoyable.

Wanting to make a similar contribution, I then put forward the idea of starting up a more concise outlet to a few friends. To my complete surprise the initial feedback was overwhelmingly positive. So a few days later, Word & Rhythm was born. And like most crazy ideas across the internet; this one was born in my bedroom studio at around 4 in the morning.

I knew that the only way that I could get my ideas for W&R to work would be to gather credible friends I had made within this industry to help me to create something original. The opinion of the music producer and dj is so often overlooked in most printed magazines and being a producer and a dj, the criticism of others in my profession matters to me so much. It keeps me humble so I can digest the criticism and fills me with excitement when I gather praises. So what we have here is an outlet. A voice. A place in the internet for the producer to be heard.

I am forever in love with what I am feeding my mind and soul, both in and out of the clubs. The joy of discovering new music and sharing it with others has become daily life. Thus is the ethos behind Word & Rhythm. Our main focus is to provide a news worthy read of what is going on within our industry as well as covering a wide variety of electronic music from techno to drum & bass. but pulling this off, it was even more important to be able to have on hand a team of writers who are respected in their particular fields.

At the same time, we will try to step a little beyond this. For most of us involved in W&R, dance music is a manifestation of our musical digestion. As i’m just as sure that most of us don’t just eat chicken everyday. All of the W&R team are into other things like dub, classical, flamenco and even myself i’m constantly digesting film scores. We have thus created further features within W&R to allow all of us to share this.

Right now though, W&R is in its infant days. our aim is to eventually make this a very interactive media based website and really incoporate as much technology as we can as well as move with it.

alot of respect has got to go to the entire team involved. being able to take some time out of their hectic schedules to be able to make this contribution.the team in its entirety are not just producers and dj's but also include some great writers giving us their help and some amazing graphic artist and web developers who prove their talent time and time again.

to end, I just can’t stress how grateful I am to everyone for their positive feedback and interest from both our industry acquaintances and the public. Without a doubt, this will take time. But we will put the effort in to make this a unique experience for all of us.
