Carl Orff's 'pop opera', which features hundreds of performers, dancers, singers, light projections and fireworks, includes a giant set previously only seen outside and in stadiums.

Franz Abraham, the creator of the production, will bring Orff's work to life through the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Brighton Festival Chorus and Youth Choir.

Orff was inspired by a collection of 13th century bawdy writings discovered in a Bavarian monastery, and his bombastic work was hugely popular in Nazi Germany.

Abraham's production was first launched in 1995 and previous performances include one on Copacabana beach in Rio to an audience of 100,000 people.

The show has been seen by more than a million people worldwide - but it is its first trip to the UK.
