Festivals & Your Hearing

RNID's Don't Lose your Hearing campaign conducted research at some of this years biggest events including Glastonburry, Latitude, Reading & Leeds - studied the listening habits of hundred of festival goers and found that 53% thought loud music had damaged their hearing.

The results showed

  • 84% had reported a dullness or ringing in their ears after listening to loud music for hours on end which could result in permanent hearing damaged if listening habits do not change.
  • 50% had experienced pain in their ears while listening to loud music.
  • only 17% are taking precaution for their hearing
  • men were more at risk with 59% aged 26-40 years old saying they had listened to music loud enough to hurt their ears while 66% say it had managed their hearing completely.

As a part of the campaign RNID handed our thousands of earplugs at festivals across the UK this summer also offering advice to people on how to protect their hearing. Festival organizers and club owners are required by law to protect the hearing of their employees by handing out the necessary protection needed. This does not extend to the people who attend these events. While the alcohol and tobacco industry have been slapped with legislation to protect our well being the same is not being one with our hearing which can result is devastating consequences.
