Mutt
Tredding Water LP
released: october 2008
label: inside recordings
what do we think: altogether a solid 12"
written by Jaymz Clart.
The wonderful Mutt straight out of Toronto, Canada gives us a stormer of an LP. All 6 tracks are varied and a testament to the variety of styles the Mutt can approach. “Rumours” is a dubbed out “breakage style” amen mashup, “Big Lights Big City” is a smooth sophisticated roller with a lovely sax sample, “Feelings For you” seems to be the flagship dance-floor tune for the album, techy, yet funky at the same time, “Just Met” is a heavy bass roller similar to the sounds of icicle or Nymfo, dutty dancefloor biz, “Go on and cry” takes a more laid back approach, keeping a smooth bossa vibe throughout, a lovely male vocal, a sweet evening wind down tune, “Eras” is another soulful roller, Mutt this time flexing his sampling skills and the amen break once again. Overall, I’d say this is a lovely album which works well on both the dance-floor and home listening.
