what do we think: some good moments

written by Kid Dub

I must be honest i think i was expecting a little more than what i got with this album. I'm a big fan of Damian Schwartz and although the album did have some great moments i felt it was weakened by some less than worthy tracks. A fantastic start with a track called 'Dos Dias Despues'. A light and percussive minimal rhythm with those perfect 808 toms & rim sounds that i just love. I carry onto with the next few tracks and notice this that the pace of this album is constantly restarting itself. It would be nicer to have had them a little more 'song structured' or edited to supreme efficiency if only perhaps for whole listening pleasure. Despite this - 'Lo Que Sube Baja' with its more deep house vibe carries me away. Experimental moments such as 'Tito Estuvo Aqui' & 'Peice of Everything' are totally cherished. I do enjoy seeing producers & artists using an album as an excuse to try something different than to what we are hearing on the dancefloor. More of this please ! There is constant drum texture through out the entire album - so if your a fan of varied beats this may disappoint. Some great moments with 'Raw' & 'Were you There?' help the album close to a good finish, reminding me very much of early 90's tech-house . Over all, its a good album which probably would have served better served as an EP release or a few singles - but as an album has not delivered the artistry to which most would expect.
