Style of Eye

duck, cover & hold

released: October 2008

label: PICKADOLL RECORDS

what do we think: a must have

written by Kid Dub

Linus Eklow aka Style of Eye has a sound that has been a long time brewing and has finally matured. The flavour is superb and the texture tantalizing. Duck, Cover & Hold is an upbeat & dancefloor album for this unique producer from Sweden. The opening track sets the pace for the next 68 minutes to follow. A quirky voice guides you through the first few minutes and aptly applied, as the album is just full of quirks. Stuttered and playful synths with almost sinister intentions dance a dance of clowns and devils with each other. Two tracks on the album Girls & The Prophet were released earlier this year and have already charted with success on many download sites and selling out in many 12" stores. Stand out tracks include Pad Problems with its massive roars, Clown which has to be one of the most playful tracks of the year without being totally cheesy and Amelie providing a much needed subtle touch in the album but just about all tracks having that Style of Eye epic & deep touch. The Last Song on the album perfectly demonstrates Linus' ability to use detuned synths to form beautiful harmonies.

Personally this is one of my hottest choices for the year & a definite must have.
